Choose the Collar of Your Formal Dress Shirt That Fits You Best
The following are a few collar designs that you will often come across in men's dress shirts.
- Straight- This is a very common type of collar. It has generally a gap of 2 to three inches in between and it spreads diagonally from beneath your chin. Since the spread is quite small you don't need to wear a tie with it.
- Spread- These collars are wide spread as in comparison to the straight type. Sometimes the spread is wide enough to reach 6 inches. Usually, the spread of this type of collars start from 3 inches. It has been seen that this type of collar highlights the facial features of the wearer if he is having a thin face.
- Button-down- As implied by the name, these collars are buttoned with the shirt. The size of the spread varies from one to another in this category. During formal occasions a tie looks great with this collar. Collar studs can be used during informal events.
- Tab collar- This has an extremely slim spread. This type of collar has a tab behind the tie knot. This tab is used to bring the edges of the collar together. Since this tab pushes out the tie knot a bit, the tie looks prominent.
- Pinned collar- In this type a pin is used instead of a tab like the prior one. Since you have the option of using different pins you can give different looks to a same shirt.
